The Alberta Opportunity Stream targets foreign workers who are already living and working in Alberta on a valid work permit and have been offered the opportunity to continue in a permanent full-time position by a qualified employer.
Applicants for this program must have:
- a minimum of one year’s related work experience
- have the required training to fill the position
- English Language Skills CLB Level 4 or better
- a high school diploma equivalent to Alberta standards
- a positive LMIA report indicating there is room for you in the provincial workforce
Applicants require valid temporary resident status before they can submit their application to work in Canada. A valid work permit based on one of the following:
- a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment
- an LMIA exemption for workers based on one of the following IRCC’s exemptions:
- international trade agreements
- workers transferred within a company
- International Experience Canada
- Mobilité Francophone
- Post-Graduation Work Permit holders who are required to have a current occupation related to their field of study in Alberta. Also, if those admitted and enrolled prior to April 1, 2019, a credential must be issued by an Alberta Advanced Education approved Alberta public and private post-secondary institution in one of the following approved credentials:
The following people are ineligible for the Alberta Opportunity Stream:
- refugee claimants or individuals involved in a federal appeal or removal process
- temporary residents living or working in a province or territory of Canada other than Alberta, or
- foreign nationals living or working in Canada who do not have valid temporary resident status
At the time your application is postmarked and at the time the AINP assesses your application, you must be working in an eligible occupation in Alberta that matches your previous work experience. Most occupations under National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels 0, A, B, C, and D are eligible under the AINP.
